Mr Stephen Metcalfe is a dedicated and highly skilled Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon, serving both NHS and private patients in Birmingham. He is currently practising at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, and The Harborne Hospital. He provides exceptional care in all aspects of Spinal Neurosurgery, except complex deformity cases, including degenerative conditions, trauma and tumours, with a special interest in treating intramedullary and intradural tumours.
Mr Metcalfe completed his medical degree at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2001, following an earlier BMedSci(Hons) degree from the same institution in 1998. He pursued rigorous Neurosurgical training in Newcastle and Middlesbrough, further enhancing his expertise with a Spinal Fellowship in Adelaide, Australia.

Mr Metcalfe is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is also an active member of several prestigious professional organisations, including the Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS), the British Association of Spine Surgeons (BASS), and AO Spine.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Metcalfe has a strong commitment to medical education. He is a Surgical Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where he plays a key role in training the next generation of surgeons.
